Portsmouth news round-up: Pompey backed to seal free agent deal as Josh Murphy reacts to injury blow
Portsmouth continue to have a busy week as they prepare for their upcoming tie against Sheffield Wednesday.
The aftermath of Portsmouth’s 0-0 draw with Southampton on Sunday is still on show, as John Mousinho looks to navigate the repercussions of the match.
As a result, there have been plenty of talking points as Pompey aim to continue their good start to the campaign.
Now, Pompey News has highlighted all of the biggest stories from the last 48 hours.

Ian Darke: Portsmouth may look for new goalkeeper after Nicolas Schmid concern
One of the biggest concerns from the Southampton game was the injury to Nicolas Schmid.
The goalkeeper was forced off the field against the Saints after a collision with Connor Ogilvie.
With Schmid potentially facing months on the sidelines, Ian Darke has backed Portsmouth to go into the free agent market to find a potential replacement.
- Ogilvie and Fellows were both chasing a loose ball in the first half
- However, Schmid also came out to clear the ball, which resulted in the collision
- Looking back on the incident, Mousinho believes Fellows is to blame due to a push
He exclusively told Pompey News: “They have to think about who will be the best goalkeeper to step in if Schmid is a long-term absentee.
“I’m not sure if Ben Killip is quite ready to be a goalkeeper in the Championship. They’ve got to think about it.
“The main hope is that Schmid makes a fairly fast recovery.”
“I haven’t seen a lot of Jordan Archer, so I don’t have a big view (on his re-registration).
He then added: “They seem to have some faith in Killip, so he may step in.
“The alternative is to look at the free agent market, are there any goalkeepers who are hanging around looking for a job that you can pick up.”

Josh Murphy sends encouraging message to teammate
Schmid’s injury has obviously caused concern throughout Pompey’s squad.
The goalkeeper has been ever-reliable between the sticks, and has been superb so far this season.
Therefore, when the keeper took to Instagram to talk about his setback, Murphy quickly sent a message to Schmid.
The winger commented on the post with emojis, including a heart and a strong arm.

Portsmouth trio thank fans for their support in South Coast derby
Now that the dust is starting to settle from the weekend, it will no doubt be looked back upon as a good result.
Despite Pompey’s missed chances, they have come away with a point against a side that is likely to be fighting for promotion.
Much of this was down to the support of the fans, with Portsmouth selling out their 2,700 allocation for the derby.
As a result, multiple Portsmouth players took to Instagram to thank fans for their support in the South Coast derby.
- Portsmouth were unable to find a winner against Southampton despite their chances
- Andre Dozzell came closest when he hit the bar in the first half
- Portsmouth remain two points above Southampton in ninth
Colby Bishop put: “Unbelievable. The best there is, thank you for your insane support! A positive point, on to the weekend.”
Adrian Segecic said: “What an experience with the best support.”
Marlon Pack stated: “The atmosphere was everything I knew it would be from our fans…pure goosebumps on arrival!
“Proud of this group of players for putting in that level of performance and for understanding what this game means. PUP.”
